The Dollar Tree Makeup Challenge Is The Next Big Viral Trend

In case you’ve been missing all the 100 layers challenge videos, now there’s the Dollar Tree makeup challenge to satisfy your curiosity. Yes, it’s exactly what you think it is. Girls are using makeup found only at Dollar Tree to beat their face to perfection. This trend started last year, but began to pick up speed again when Allure-favorite beauty blogger Raye Boyce (a.k.a. ItsMyRayeRaye) posted her Dollar Tree makeup challenge video yesterday. It already has close to 150k views, and if your friends are anything like mine, it’s been shared on your Facebook timeline many, many times. It’s that great.

Boyce begins the video by explaining that she’s used the chain’s makeup in the past. “I started using Dollar Tree makeup first because I couldn’t afford any other makeup,” she says. “I couldn’t even afford drugstore makeup.” She would save her money to buy “that $12-$15 foundation” but everything else came from the dollar store. Now she uses more mid-range and high-end makeup. If you don’t know already, Dollar Tree sells specific brands that mostly all the locations sell. Those include: Sassy + Chic, L.A. Colors, and Colormates. I’ve used L.A. Colors eyeshadow before and it isn’t terrible for super-cheap makeup you pick up on the fly, but we haven’t tested any of these other brands so if you try this challenge, definitely proceed with caution.

So how does she do? Well, Boyce finds that the Sassy + Chic foundation doesn’t have a lot of coverage, but that the Colormates foundation she uses as concealer blends out really well. Though, she pretty much hates the $1 sponges. She notes that her Dollar Tree does sell E.L.F. makeup, especially the Clear Brow & Lash Mascara which she loves and still uses. But that product costs $2, which would go against her $1 challenge. Way to stay on track, girl. One surprise? Boyce says the L.A. Colors blush is extremely pigmented. Good to know, right? Hey, if you ever lose your suitcase on a trip somewhere, chances are you’ll find a Dollar Tree around.

Watch her entire video below and see her really pretty finished look. Then check out her Drugstore x High-End Makeup Challenge, which is just as impressive.
