These Metallic Matte Lipsticks Are a Major Steal
From Pat McGraw’s Lush 004 lip kits to Fendi’s spring/summer 2017 show, glittery pouts have never been so chic. Thanks to metallic matte lipsticks like Hard Candy’s latest launch, you can try out the high-fashion look without the messy multi-step process. They apply in a single swipe, no pressing, sealing, blotting required.
The Hard Candy Metallic Mousse lipsticks are just $6, and you can buy them at Walmart. They’re also another great dupe of the metallic Kylie Lip Kits. I tried out Smoke & Mirrors, a shimmery amethyst, for a day and felt like a beautiful mermaid. (If you’re into that vibe, we rounded up products that will speak to your inner underwater goddess.) My first time applying the metallic matte lipstick was definitely a learning experience. I applied two coats, and my lips turned into a hot, chunky mess. Every time I opened my mouth, I felt like the lipstick was forming little cobwebs between my lips—very cute. (To be fair, a co-worker assured me that it actually didn’t look that way.) The second time was the charm. With just one coat, I was web-free and good to go for the rest of the day. The metallic matte lipstick surprisingly stayed put despite a very moist and velvety finish. When I took sips from my water bottle, it only left a faint purple mark, not an entire great-aunt-Tilly-style imprint.
The collection also includes Sweet as Honey (a bronze), Queen of Hearts (a magenta), Sandstorm (a rose gold), Gilded Cocoa (a, well, cocoa), Truffle (a faded rose), and Penny Talk (a copper). Here are swatches of the metallic matte lipsticks:
